Small Action Stories 2

Last year I found an article from a 2006 edition of Guideposts. In this article a woman shared how she began to knit for charity 10 years earlier. She did originally to help recover from some grief, but soon she grew to enjoy the knitting. She started to get together and knit sweaters for charity. As they worked together and knit, they were all encouraged.

Soon others joined in, not only in their town, but all across the USA. In ten years 300,000 sweaters had been made and given to charities all over the world. Because one woman started to knit with friends, 300,000 sweaters got to kids who needed them.

Is there something that you do with friends? Volunteer together at a food pantry? Make blankets for charity? Whatever it is, know that you are contributing to making the world a better place. Small actions done together make for even greater impact. Keep it up.

I Love Yarn Day!

Okay, normally I don't get into these small holidays. But I liked this one.

Today is I Love Yarn Day! It's a day to celebrate crafting.

How about we making it a charity day? What about setting aside some time today and making some things for charity? Make a hat for the hat Box Foundation. Make a preemie gown for Faith Hope and Charity Stitches. Or why not volunteer your time.

Ministry (or lack there of)

What do you do when you haven’t been doing a lot of ministry things? When you’re a ministry blogger, I guess that I should be doing more for charities and such. But lately I haven’t been doing much. I’ve been mainly making films and spending time with family. Making things for charity has dropped down on my list. 

It’s not that I don’t want to make things for charity anymore, it’s that I haven’t been making time for these things. I’ve been too busy. 

As I sat down to write a batch of blog posts, I felt bad that I didn’t have more to tell you. That I couldn’t show you what I had made, or tell you about something I did. But as I sit here writing, I couldn’t come up with anything to tell you about. 

Yet there’s one thing I can say, there are seasons when we are more productive than others. There are times when we will have fruitful seasons of ministry. And no matter what stage were in, God is right there with us. He will show us what we are supposed to do and where we are supposed to go. 

So I may not set a record for the most items made for charity, but I’ll focus on what God has given me to do today and see where that takes me.

Dorcas: A Woman Of Charity

      James 1:27 (NIV) Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.


Dorcas for the Bible was practicing this long before James wrote these words.

In the days of Paul, Tabitha or Dorcas was a woman of charity. She was always doing good to others. If someone needed help at the soup kitchen, Dorcas volunteered. If a widow needed a new cloak, Dorcas got out her loom. If a beggar lacked food, Dorcas would get him some. She was a woman of kindness and love.

Although the account of this woman is short we can learn from this woman.

She was always helping others. There was never a time when she wasn’t busy. My mom says all the time; “If you’re busy it will keep you out of trouble.” This is very true. When we are so busy doing good and helping others, we won’t have time to do silly things like listen to gossip, dwell on sin, or have time for temptation.

This isn’t to say that just keeping a busy schedule will eliminate sin from your life. But it will help to keep you focused on Godly things.

She was well loved. When she died the widows sent to Joppa to get Peter. The church urged Peter to come and help them. Once Peter arrived he was surround by widows who showed of Dorcas’ work. When we reflect God’s love into this work, we will be loved. One of the telltale marks of a believers is that they are loved by others members of Christ’s body. As we work to love and give to others, we will gain friends that will help and encourage us. Dorcas had many of these.

Docas was even rescued from death. God saw that she still had work to do. He used Peter to bring her back to life. What we can learn? Use the time that you have well. God gives all of us second chances to do that what He calls us to do. Continue to work and do what He calls you to do. And you will be blessed.
