Living It! #1

By Rose H.

This year MOHL and it's writers are centered on living out our faith not just writing about it.

For me this goal is personal. For months I felt like had been urging me to step out, take a chance and do something new to help others. It's coming in several different forms. This month I want to share with you some of the different ways God has been helping me to live out my faith.

#1 Serving Family

One of the things that I wanted to do is make sure that I serve my family, even as my life gets busier. It seems like we are all getting busier with different and amazing activities. But I wanted to make sure that I'm still taking time to contribute to our family. So this year, I've been trying to do little things daily to help my family.

Things like ... Cleaning up after I cook something, help siblings with work, make more sweets (always a winner), and encouraging and praying for them.

My hope for the the rest of this year is that I can encourage and bless my family.

Start of Something New

Ah, January. The time of new beginnings. The time to make new goals and work on new projects.
It’s always so easy to make goals. It’s harder to stick with them throughout the entire year. Right now we are caught up in the new and the fresh goals. A few months from now the excitement will wear off. Your goals will just become one more thing on you to do list.

When this happens, keep going. Remember the reasons you made your goals and stick with them. God had a reason He had you make those goals and He has a plan for how you will finish them. Remember this verse?  Galatians 6:9 (NIV) Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

So when the excitement wears off, remember why you made your goals, and keep going. Keep working for an abundant harvest.

Happy New Year!

By Rose Holman

2013 has begun! Can you believe it? Time seems to be going faster these days.

So what are you going to do this year in ministry? Try something new? Work on something old? Whatever you do, dive into it. See it through. Do your best at it and watch God work in some amazing ways.

My goal for this year is to pick one charity every month, and for the duration of that month make things for that charity. I look forward to picking these charities and making things for them.

Each month, I’ll give you an update on what charity I picked and how much I was able to make.

Enjoy your new year.

Holiday Idea’s Part 4

By Rose H.

Christmas is over. It’s sad isn’t it? We enjoy the holidays so much and then all too soon they’re over.
Now as we look forward to the New Year. A new beginning. A time to make new goals, to plan new projects, to dream new dreams.

So let’s get going. Put on your thinking caps. Let’s figure out what we are going to do this year.
As you plan, here’s a few things to remember.

1.       Remember the bigger picture. Remember the reasons you do what you do. Make your plans based on that.

2.       Keep things simple. Don’t try to bit off more than you can chew. Make some simple and easy goals.

3.       Pray about your goals.

4.       Ask friends to join in. Having encouragement and support is always a great idea to ensure that you see your goals through to the finish.

5.       Enjoy the process of making new goals.

6.       As always, keep an open mind. Maybe try something that you have never tried before. Just live out the calling that God has called you to.

20 Things For My Birthday

I used this idea from Rachelle's blog for my birthday. Today I turn 20! Thank you, Rachelle! So here we go …

            20 things that I have done ...

1.        Accepted Christ into my life and let Him take me on an incredible journey of faith and love.
2.       Graduated from homeschool at the top of the class for that year (Actually I was the only one in my graduating class that year).
3.       Taught at a homeschool co-op from 6 months, and a once a month sewing and Bible class with my sister for five years.
4.       Went to Sea World San Antonio, D. C. , the Rookies, Lancaster County, Valley Forge, and traveled a lot in Texas.
5.       Was the in a play! (I love this. I got to act (a big dream of mine) and wear one of those flowing medieval dresses. *sigh* Loved it!)
6.       Had articles published on Meditations of His Love, Virtuous Girlhood, Priceless Jewels, and in countless magazines.
7.       Written four plays and screenplays.
8.       Sang in front of church, in small groups, in a play, and at a small Christian festival.
9.       Made a cross stitched calendar, six cross stitched nativity sets for my mom, hundreds of gifts and small things.
10.   Given away over a hundred crocheted items to charity and friends.
11.   Learned how to make cards and scrapbook.
12.   Volunteered at a local thrift store.
13.   I got to see Natalie Grant and Matthew West in concert.
14.   Learned to sew. It’s still not one of my favorite things, but I know how to do it.
15.   Read through the encyclopedia set, and listen to or read over 300 books.
16.   Became a baker (it was the best hobby I took up).
17.   Learned ASL.
18.   Worked as a cleaning lady for some dear elderly Christian couples. It’s been such a wonderful way to get to know them and serve them.
19.   Started this blog to help girls find ministries and encouragement.
20.   Survived 20 years through my own antics and through my families teasing me about them.

Wow. That sounds like a lot. Now what do I want to accomplish in the next 20 years?

1.       I want to take a trip to the Grand Canyon, Hallstat Austria, and trips to meet my blogging friends.
2.       Hopefully God will bring along Mr. Right, and … you know!
3.       Make one nativity every year for my mom for Christmas. As well as continue to make things for charity.
4.       Continue to write for the blogs that I currently write for and see about getting published in some magazines.
5.       Continue to teach. It’s something that I like doing and I hope and pray that I can continue to teach other girl some of what God has taught me.
6.       Write down the plays and screenplays that I have in my head.
7.       Make a quilt for my bed.
8.       Go on a mission trip with my family.
9.       Mentor other girls and grow lasting friendships with the wonderful friends that God has given to me.
10.   Learn to sing better.
11.   Keep a journal.
12.   Learn to sew better.
13.   Minister to the elderly.
14.   Make a crocheted blanket that has cross stitching on it.
15.   Learn more about gardening, baking, history, and nature.
16.   Form closer friendships with my family.
17.   Read another 200 books.
18.   Be content wherever I am.
19.   See what else God has in store for me.
20.   Become closer to my Savior.
