A Simple thank You

We as Americans are so blessed. We have police to protect our neighborhoods. We have the border patrol to guard our borders. We have an army to defend us abroad. Yes, we are truly blessed.
Yet even with all this, it’s not often that we as Christians do anything for the men and women who protect us. We like to think that if we ever need them, they’re only a call away. But how many times do we say, “Thank you?” We sit in church and pray without fear, and don’t even pray for the men and women who give us that freedom?
Sadly many of us (me included) enjoy the freedom that this country provides without giving a second thought to the men and women who give us that freedom day in and day out.
You may be asking, “What can we do?” Great question! You always come up with good ones!
There are many things that you can do. It can be as simple as giving your local police department or fire station a batch of cookies. You could pray for the men and women who protect our freedoms. And my personal favorite is something very simple. When you see someone in uniform – police, firefighter, or military – tell them thank you. It doesn’t have to be in flowery words. It can be as simple as, “Thank you for serving our country.”
You don’t know what that will mean to them. Sometimes your thank you will be the only kind words they will hear for a long time.
For those of you who travel and get weary of all the airport security, remember they are protecting you and your family from threats. So when you’re going through customs make sure to say thank you to the security guards.
These may seem like little things. But it’s the little daily things that you do that will affect people for eternity.

  1. Thank you for this post! I think that I too often take for granted the freedom that we have here in America, and the people who are making it possible.
